
The Commission of Inquiry on Tigray Genocide has announced plans to publish a comprehensive report of findings within a couple of weeks, detailing the extensive human and material destruction inflicted on Tigray during the war.
The upcoming report, which includes 22 sectoral reports with in the six broader thematic areas, compiles findings from all accessible areas in Tigray. The Commission’s Commissioner, Yemane Zeray, stated that the report highlights the devastating impact of the war on essential services such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, livelihoods, cultural heritage, and the environment. The new report is expected to give a more detailed account of the scale, nature, and perpetrators of the damages.

The reports categorize the destruction into several area including Social Sector a damage to schools, healthcare facilities, cultural and religious heritage, and community institutions., Infrastructure, a urban centers, roads, electric power grids, telecommunications, and media facilities, Environment which includes forests, water sources, wildlife, farmland, and biodiversity, Economy damage on disruption of households’ livelihoods, agriculture, manufacturing industries, trade, financial services, and local businesses, Gender Based Violence (GBV), widespread gender-based attacks and Governance: Erosion of justice, security, administrative services, and public institutions.
Commissioner Yemane Zeray noted that the release of the forthcoming English-language reports aims to support Tigray’s recovery, memorialization of victims, and the pursuit of justice for survivors, ensuring historical accountability for atrocities committed.
A separate report focusing on human casualties, atrocities, and other forms of violence against civilians is expected to be released within the next two months.
