
March 2021. “ Sosina was with her mother and grandmother when Eritrean soldiers entered the house. They kidnapped her and held her captive in a wood, her hands tied behind her back. She remained tied up there for a week, raped by fifteen soldiers. She was also tortured on various parts of her body, to the point that she had lost all control of her movements.”
This is an excerpt from Sosina’s testimony, cited in the new report by the Tigray Genocide Investigation Commission (TGIC), which reports to the government of the northern region of Ethiopia, entitled “Genocidal Sexual and Gender-Based Violence during the Tigray War.” Like her, several hundred thousand survivors have testified to the violence they suffered during the conflict in northern Ethiopia between November 2020 and November 2022.
