Only eight percent of students graduated secondary school in 2023 in Tigray
A survey conducted by Young Lives, a UK-based organization, reveals that youth in the conflict-affected regions of Tigray and Amhara are significantly less likely to finish their secondary education than their peers in other parts of the country.
The survey conducted between 2023 and 2024 is part of a longitudinal study that tracks the educational trajectories of two cohorts of young Ethiopians over two decades, highlighting the impact of prolonged conflict and school disruptions on education outcomes.
Spanning six regions—Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, SNNPR, Sidama, and Tigray—the survey investigates the experiences of two age groups: 2,000 people born in 2001–02 and 1,000 individuals born in 1994–95, across 20 designated sites. Read more
